The Christian Employers Alliance (CEA), a national membership organization of evangelical ministries and businesses, has won a judicial victory over the federal abortifacient mandate, which required the CEA and its members to cover abortion-inducing drugs and devices in their employee health plans. In July 2019, the federal district court in North Dakota entered a permanent injunction against the mandate in favor of the CEA, wiping away billions of dollars in potential accumulated fines and penalties against CEA members. The injunction, which is based on the Religious Freedom Restoration Act, benefits current and future members of the CEA, and prohibits the government from enforcing the mandate and imposing penalties against any of them. The CEA is represented by Nussbaum Speir. See press coverage in Christian News Wire, Live Action News, and Thomson Reuters.
